MARIEYAT: Tink Top & G-Tang Thong

Size: XS, XS / Material: Cotton / Purchasable from: MARIEYAT

I often go through phases of wanting nothing but over-the-top, avant-garde, bondage inspired lingerie to only wanting simple cotton basics. With summer just round the corner, my need for comfort only increases as there's nothing more I'd rather do than to lounge around all day in bed.

Enter MARIEYAT, an incredibly young London-based label new to the lingerie scene. Focusing on creating underwear that challenged conventional shapes and silhouettes, but was also comfortable for everyday wear, MARIEYAT was the perfect union between my two opposing lingerie phases. I was also incredibly smitten with the MARIEYAT aesthetic, and furthermore felt compelled to support a designer who shared the same ethnicity as me.

As it was my birthday a few weeks ago, my sweetest flower, C, surprised me with the MARIEYAT Tink top and G-Tang thong after seeing it pinned onto my lingerie wish list. I received both items in a soft navy lingerie bag with the MARIEYAT logo printed in white, as well as an extremely thoughtful, handwritten note from the designer herself. Both these things are a win-win in my books: the lingerie bag is exceptionally useful for storage, and the note not only makes the whole experience more personal, but also makes me want to support indie, ethical brands like MARIEYAT even more.

I received both items in XS, which according to their size chart fits a 28"-30" bust. It is unfortunately unclear as underneath the 'bust in inches' label, 'under bust measurement' is also stated implying that this measurement was the one that should be referred to. Because of this reason, I suspect, the XS Tink top fits incredibly snug on me and flattens my bust out a bit more than it should. Though it is not uncomfortable or restrictive in anyway, I think I would've preferred how an S would have fit me instead. This is therefore something I would keep in mind for any future purchases I make, and hopefully also helps clarify any sizing matters for those interested in purchasing MARIEYAT.

Sizing issues aside, the Tink top features two hidden pockets on the underside, which allows you to insert any additional padding of your preference. This, I thought, was a really nice touch. Given a choice I'm also usually not one to pick thongs over briefs, so it means a lot when I say this: in this instance I simply loved how the thong was cut, so much so I thought that I'd sacrifice comfort for style. To my delight, neither comfort nor style had to be sacrificed as these bottoms are incredibly comfy and fits like second skin. Much like my Reckless Wolf Prey knickers, the G-Tang thong also features straps that frames the butt. However unlike the Prey knickers, the elastic straps on these do not dig in the slightest, sits loosely against the skin without looking too baggy, and manages to stay in place all at the same time.

Both pieces are also made from thick ribbed cotton mixed with spandex, which I have to say is one of my favourite materials of all time. The fabric isn't flimsy and feels incredibly cozy. Overall, I'm honestly really impressed with both the philosophy and quality of MARIEYAT. I sincerely feel that her label is headed in a good direction, and I'm looking forward to seeing what more she will offer in future collections.
